The Duo
April 1, 2011
After forty-five years making music together, the Guarneri String Quartet played its very last concert on October 27, 2009. People often ask me whether I miss playing quartets. Of course I do. I miss not only the concerts, but also the camaraderie, the rehearsals, the traveling, the exotic food, and the interesting people along the way. So I’ve decided to form another group—this time, a duo. I’ve teamed up with a wonderful partner. Tessa Border is her name. Tessa has a lovely voice, a most appealing stage personality, and it doesn’t hurt that she’s absolutely gorgeous. (Sadly, some people really do listen with their eyes.) We call ourselves simply, The Duo. Aside from artistic considerations, Tessa and I get along famously, which means we are looking forward to wonderful adventures together on tour. But all this is beside the point. The music’s the thing. The video below provides a small sample (click to launch video in YouTube):

This is truly entertaining!
Well done, Arnold. You really had me going.
At last you have found a musician worthy of your talents. I suppose that on tour you will be go walking and share meals together. She will always want to pick a bone with you and that is not bad.
Please keep on writing and enjoying yourself because you give so much to others!
Thank you!
For one millisecond I feared for your marriage (which I’m sure was the intent of the tease) but now I’m not. Or am I……? After all, she is your NBF!
You punked me good, Mr. Steinhardt. I was getting really excited to see when you were coming to AZ to perform!
This is the best ever April Fools’ joke!
I, too, was taken in and wondered how your wife would handle your touring with the beautiful Tessa. Then I thought, well, of course your wife will be traveling with you.
You and Tessa do make a stunning pair. You’re even dressed alike! She has a splendid voice, and I love how her tail moves to the beat.
It’s clear the two of you have been practicing for a long time, at least ever since October 2009, and are now ready to unleash The Duo upon the world stage.
Thank you for a good laugh! And keep up the terrific writing.
This is wonderful! I look forward to hear The Duo in Los Angeles :-)
And the tux put me over the edge. I howled as loud as you did when it cane on-screen !
Tessa is a perfect partner! I’ve never been so impressed with another singer! You make a perfect duo!
Dear Arnold:
You are right, Tessa is a great performer. Hope you are scheduling for some concerts in México.
I will get for you the right audience: four cats, ten turtles, six golden fish, two iguanas, nine budgies, three canaries and a little scarab beetle named Pepito el Toro. Maybe you can form a great chorus with them!!!
Love,
Maru and Paolo
Arnold, I posted this video on my Facebook page and all the dog lovers “liked”- – but where are the out of work fiddlers?
Julia, in Cummington
Maestro Steinhardt, I am not a musician, just one of those people fortunate to be exposed to music, musicians and instruments as a youth, consequently enjoying music all my years, which are many. I was introduced to your site by Alfred Duckett and thank him much. I just want you to know that I enjoy it immensely and that I thank you for providing a glimpse into a realm of beauty that is denied to so many through our world’s concentration on the perishable, ephemeral, and material while the eternal, the arts, expressions of man’s soul, are relegated to the realm of the superfluous, the unnecessary, the dispensable. My reference is that when it comes to budget cuts in public education, too often the arts are the first to go.
Best wishes in all that you do.
